Originally developed in Norway, Denmark (Rainbow trout although it is an American species) and Scotland, now farmed in significant quantities in Europe, Canada, Chile and Australia (Tasmania). First or Second in the world for production value.
Major species are Vietnamese basa, Channel catfish, and African and Asian walking catfish (Clarias sp.). Mostly farmed in Asia and the Southern United States.
Very well suited species to subsistence farming although arguably not well suited to large aqua business due to finicky breeding biology and low flesh recovery (Although becoming a very successful import in the US and Europe). Mostly farmed in Asia, South America and Africa.
The European pike perch, or zander (Stizostedion, or Lucioperca, lucioperca; see photograph), is found in lakes and rivers of eastern, central, and (where introduced) western Europe. It is greenish or grayish, usually with darker markings, and generally attains a length of 50–66 cm (20–26 inches) and a weight of 3 kg (6.6 pounds).
Sturgeon, (family Acipenseridae), any of about 29 species of fishes of the family Acipenseridae (subclass Chondrostei), native to temperate waters of the Northern Hemisphere. Most species live in the ocean and ascend rivers (possibly once in several years) to spawn in spring or summer; a few others are confined to fresh water. Several species provide caviar from eggs
Eel, (order Anguilliformes), any of more than 800 species of teleost fishes characterized by elongate wormlike bodies. Anguilliforms include the common freshwater eels as well as the voracious marine morays.
The two fish are quite different – sea bream has meaty white flakes while sea bass is much more delicate in texture.
Barramundi and Murray Cod are legendary Australian Sportsfish, they both grow well over a metre, and both are implosion feeders.
Hybrid striped bass is a cross between striped bass and white bass. Hybrid striped bass are a very popular sportfish throughout the Southeast, particularly in large reservoirs. Striped bass were originally found down the Atlantic coast from New Brunswick to Florida, and along the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas.
